That's why I could tell ya that part of the story. You've seen Flynn's uniform, mine is kinda similiar but it's orange. As Schwann I was a Captain in the Imperial Knights, as Raven I was one of the highest rankin' members of Altosk. I don't act like it half the time, but I'm not a bad leader.

You, a leader...?

[Hold on, his brain is trying to process that. Well, okay, so Raven has been good about looking after him, which counts for something, right? Still, it's hard for him to picture someone like Raven as a Captain in any sort of knights.]

[Shockingly I find it hard to believe myself. But he even gets complimented as a leader several times in the game.]

Seriously! Hold on a second. [He walks over to the closet and starts digging around in the back. He emerges holding his orange uniform.] Told ya.

Wow, it really does look like Flynn's. An Imperial knight...

[He reaches out one hand to touch it just gently, running his fingers over the cloth.]

Then you must be a really good fighter like Yuri and Flynn. Well, better than I am, at least.

[He throws it on the bed next to Emil and takes seat again.]

I'm better with a sword than a bow, I just prefer the latter. I never planned on learnin' to fight to begin with, you just have to learn once ya join the Knights.

What made you decide to use a bow instead of a sword if that's what you're better with?

[And that's the sensitive subject.]

When I was just a knight, before I became a Captain or anythin' like that, I fought in the Great War. I was just a kid at the time, but a dear friend of mine used a bow herself. When she died I started usin' a bow in her memory.

[Emil goes quiet for a moment.]

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up bad memories. You must really miss her a lot if you went to all of that trouble to remember her...

[Almost without thinking, his own hand drifts up to rest over something beneath his shirt.]

I'm sure... I'm sure she'd be happy to know you cared about her that much.

They're not all bad memories. I treasure the time I spent with her when she was alive, so when I look back on those memories I can't help but feel happy to have known her. But... [He hesistates, though it is part of the promise he made to tell Emil what happened. It's painful to bring up.] She sacrificed herself to save me and even then... it wasn't enough.

[He pauses for a minute.]

We both died that day.

You... what? But if you died, then how...

[He reaches out to touch Raven just to make sure that he's real. Yep, definitely solid and warm and seemingly alive.]

You don't feel like a ghost to me.

[That makes him grin a little.]

Yeah I'm definately alive kid. I was brought back from the dead by Alexei.

People can do things like that in your world?

Well... no. As far as I'm aware Alexei is the only one who knows that kinda knowledge.

It's difficult ta explain. But basically, in our world there's things called blastia and they're used to power everything. From the barriers protecting the towns to a small music box on a mantelpiece. When I died Alexei replaced my heart with a blastia. [He points to this chest before unbuttoning the shirt. This is the 2nd time in 2 weeks he's shown someone his heart. It never gets easier and it never gets less awkward to explain. When he's done Emil should be able to see it clearly.]

[Now Emil looks genuinely surprised and has to stop himself from reaching out to touch the blastia heart as well. There's something familiar about it and that bothers him-- he's never seen his own core, but the scraps of Ratatosk's memories that he has now tell him that it looks similar to that.]

That looks almost like my core. Ratatosk's core, I mean. At least, I think it does. I've never actually seen it myself, but somehow I know what it looks like.

That would make sense, it is a blastia core. In our world the plan was ta convert all the cores into spirits.

So the blastia cores really are like the Centurions' cores, then.

We haven't got that far in my timeline yet. I've got no idea whether the plan is gonna work or not, or how blastia actually function. All I know is that they use aer ta do the things they do. This one doesn't.

[Careful, Raven, he just might be poking at it now.]

[Oh he sees your pokey finger coming at him and he jerks back freezing against the wall.]
