I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up bad memories. You must really miss her a lot if you went to all of that trouble to remember her...

[Almost without thinking, his own hand drifts up to rest over something beneath his shirt.]

I'm sure... I'm sure she'd be happy to know you cared about her that much.

They're not all bad memories. I treasure the time I spent with her when she was alive, so when I look back on those memories I can't help but feel happy to have known her. But... [He hesistates, though it is part of the promise he made to tell Emil what happened. It's painful to bring up.] She sacrificed herself to save me and even then... it wasn't enough.

[He pauses for a minute.]

[He reaches out to touch Raven just to make sure that he's real. Yep, definitely solid and warm and seemingly alive.]

Well... no. As far as I'm aware Alexei is the only one who knows that kinda knowledge.

It's difficult ta explain. But basically, in our world there's things called blastia and they're used to power everything. From the barriers protecting the towns to a small music box on a mantelpiece. When I died Alexei replaced my heart with a blastia. [He points to this chest before unbuttoning the shirt. This is the 2nd time in 2 weeks he's shown someone his heart. It never gets easier and it never gets less awkward to explain. When he's done Emil should be able to see it clearly.]

[Now Emil looks genuinely surprised and has to stop himself from reaching out to touch the blastia heart as well. There's something familiar about it and that bothers him-- he's never seen his own core, but the scraps of Ratatosk's memories that he has now tell him that it looks similar to that.]

That looks almost like my core. Ratatosk's core, I mean. At least, I think it does. I've never actually seen it myself, but somehow I know what it looks like.

We haven't got that far in my timeline yet. I've got no idea whether the plan is gonna work or not, or how blastia actually function. All I know is that they use aer ta do the things they do. This one doesn't.
