[As it's raining today, the old man has decided to do what he usually does, get drunk out of boredom. But it has been a while since he's used the journal for anything other than people watching, so he figured he should probably contribute to that mess that we call social interaction. He's been trying to figure out what he was doing the last time he was in Luceti, he must've entertained himself somehow. ~~He did gardening.~~]

How do you guys stop yerselves from gettin' so bored in this place? Not that I mind the peace and quiet we get when we're not bein' experimented on! It's just that some of you must've picked up new hobbies, ones that don't involve spendin' every day at the battle dome, right? Us old folk just aren't cut out fer that sorta thing. Drinkin' alcohol every day isn't a very healthy hobby ta have.

[A pause while he pours himself another class of wine.]

A turtle did suggest that I take up a musical instrument now that I think about it.

I know so! Really, I'm surprised I never asked what yer world was called before. For the record, mine is a place called Terca Lumireis, see, fancy sounding.

That does sound much more fancy than Gunsmoke!

It does, doesn't it? I guess it had some deep meanin' behind it, rather just bein' something that happens when ya fire a gun...

[Roughly it means "The Illuminated Land" or crap along those lines to go with the star theme.]

Huh, I wonder what it's suppose to mean. Something with lights maybe?

Maybe it means "the planet is tryin' ta kill ya so you got a crap deal", that would be accurate enough fer me.

Gee, you make it sound like such a pleasant place to be.

It's still my home, so at the end of the day I'm gonna always chose it. But the simple fact boils down ta the fact it really is a dangerous place ta live. Most people never leave the barriers because they'll be eaten by monsters.

And if it ain't the monsters out ta get you, the aer itself, the thing behind all life, also has a record of killin' people too. Consider yerself lucky old pal.

Well, I guess I can't really complain. Gunsmoke really isn't much better, we just don't try to hide it behind a pretty name.

Then again, last I knew the thing behind all life wasn't trying to kill us. [A crazy Plant is trying to get the other Plants people depend on to live is, but that's slightly different.]

When ya think about it, Luceti has a lot of connections ta other worlds. Fer me, bein' stuck inside a barrier with an outside isn't anything new. It's almost nostalgic actually... But fer other people there might be little things that are similar to their own circumstances.

Luceti can be both a salvation and a damnation dependin' on who's dragged here. Don't ya think so?

[Vash's smile is a little strained at the idea, for he knows that to be true a little too well.] Yeah, I do.

[It's not hard to notice a fake smile from Vash. But he thinks it would be best not to poke that.]

Think of it this way, because of Luceti, ya got yerself a drinkin' buddy!

[Or at least when the smile is faker than normal. Either way it's gone in a flash and replaced with the old grin.]

Never hurts to have an extra drinking buddy no matter where you end up.

I agree! Imagine just how miserable everyone would be without a good drinkin' buddy! The horror! Oh, I don't want to think about it! Social drinking is fun.

Yeah, drinking isn't any fun when you do it on your own! Who will remember all the fun you had for you!?

I can just not wait ta get ya drunk again! [And put you in a bear suit.] We need ta have more fun around here anyway.

[If he only knew.] I could use a good night of drinking anytime, count me in the next time you head for the bar.
